Appeasement: Europe's Biggest Mistake
Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of Great Britain at the time, decided to use appeasement when dealing with Hitler. Chamberlain and the rest of Britain didn't want another long bloody war like WWI, which the world had just begun to recover from. Hitler couldn't be trusted, and appeasement was thought, at the time, to be the solution. Hitler didn't back down after he had gotten what he had wanted; he only started to demand more and more countries to build his empire. Many thought that using appeasement would bring Hitler's want for power to an end and provide a way to stifle the oncoming war that would soon ravage Europe, but it was soon proved that appeasement wasn't the answer.

The British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain made a mistake when he had used appeasement towards Germany; though he was trying to save his people from enduring another war. This plan encouraged Hitler to quicken his plans on invasion once his fears of being challenged were extinguished. Hitler later admitted that he would have backed down from any advances other would have taken if he had been stood up to; and since he hadn't been, he just kept expanding.
Appeasement led Hitler to think that he was unstoppable and he began to take more places over around the Meridian; as well as Western/Eastern Europe. The war was going to happen either way, and using appeasement instead of facing Hitler and opposing Hitler only increased the amount of damage that was inflicted. There were more places on Germany's side and under its power at that point, making Hitler harder to defeat in war and maximizing the casualties in the Holocaust because of his ability to become that powerful; as well as maximizing the costs of war because of the greater supplies and armaments needed. If appeasement hadn't been the chosen policy, and the Allies had just faced Hitler, WWII wouldn't have been as damaging and killing as it ended up being.

Appeasement: Europe's Best Decision
Many people have different opinions about appeasement, some think appeasement was a great policy, while others think appeasement was a horrible policy. Many think it was an excellent policy, because Neville Chamberlain had decided to use the policy, people thought he knew what was best for Great Britain considering he was the Prime Minister. They also thought it would've stopped a potential war, even if they thought a war would come from it, they thought they'd get more time to prepare and get ready for another war. Also Hitler had said he'd stop after he had got Sudetenland he would back down and he would no longer demand anything. Many, including Chamberlain believed him and that's one of the reason he developed the policy of appeasement. "Give thanks to your God. Your children are safe. Peace is a victory for all mankind. If we must have a victor, let us choose Mr Chamberlain." ~The Daily Express, about the Munich agreement, October 1938. Newspapers in 1938 were spreading great news around about appeasement, saying how great of a policy it is and how lucky they are for having that policy put into place.
